Myanmar

I don't believe I have ever visited a country where I had done so little research into what to expect as I was upon visiting Burma. Certainly I knew about the military junta running the country, but to be honest I knew little else. Suffice it to say that I was not at all prepared for the splendor I was to experience. The plains of Bagan rival the temples of Angkor in Cambodia and are something I believe everyone should see. Countless wonderful temples and historical sites throughout the country came as wonderful surprises to me as well. The crown jewels of Burma though are the people; while they live under one of the worst governments in the world, they were open, welcoming and wonderful in every way. Thankfully the junta will never be able to take their spirits from them and hopefully soon they will be given the freedom they so rightly deserve.
